The Ottawa Hostel Outdoor Club (OHOC) organizes day and weekend outdoor excursions year-round at minimal cost for residents of and visitors to the Ottawa and Gatineau communities, including guests of the Ottawa Hostel. Our environmentally-sound recreational activities include hiking, walking, bicycling, canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing, and skating. Club members range in age from post-high-school to retirement age and, like Ottawa itself, are of many nationalities.

Day outings are planned for nearly every Saturday and Sunday throughout the year. The club offers numerous weekend-long trips to destinations in Ontario, Quebec, and the mountain ranges in New York and New England. All day outings and weekend trips are open to both non-members (for a small additional fee) and members, except for the Wednesday evening canoe outings that are an exclusive benefit of membership.

Most trips start at the Ottawa Hostel, which is downtown at 75 Nicholas Street (map) and is located near the Rideau Centre.

Members of OHOC enjoy added benefits, such as club discounts at local outdoor equipment shops; free introductory courses in activities such as canoe rescue and snowshoeing, as well as subsidized courses in leadership training and wilderness first aid; and notification of social events throughout the year, including parties, movie outings and other events. The 2010 membership application form is available. We are a volunteer-run club and, as a result, prices are low.

Feel free to join us for almost any event: winter, spring, summer, or fall. Come alone or with friends; we look forward to meeting you. It's easy to join in:
